Special issue of Český lid 1/2022 – Young people with experience of migration
In a special issue of Český lid we would like to focus on young people with experience of migration or who are second generation immigrants. We would like to explore the situation of young people who either migrated from their country of origin or who were born to parents who migrated. Our focus of interest is the experiences of people who are, on the one hand, in many ways (due to secondary socialisation) involved in the society/space of the destination country. On the other hand, they are, at least in primary socialisation, embedded in a migration network, more specifically, their families and the diaspora. This special issue will provide an opportunity to publish studies that deal with the contexts and practices in which experience of migration affects young people's lives and identities. The umbrella metaphor for their situation is "in-between". Young people with migratory experience are in-between different social fields (diasporic, majority, transnational), which influences their positioning in the social space. They are confronted with their otherness, connected to imagining normativity constructed by power dominant discourses. They face or encounter ideas of themselves that are fulfilled through the practices of delimitation and inclusion.
For this issue, we welcome contributions that focus on the situation of young people with experience of migration in the context of the social reality of the Czech Republic and abroad. We are interested not only in studies on the perspectives of young people, but also those related to the ambitions and pressures of the parent generation in shaping the young generation. This topic is closely related to the institutions of secondary socialisation (peer groups, schools, leisure activities) that participate in the negotiation/construction of the social identities of young people with experience of migration.
The deadline for the submission of articles is 30th June 2021.
